Sub drop is the physical and emotional crash that can follow an intense BDSM scene, caused by the body's return to baseline after a flood of endorphins and adrenaline. Symptoms include sadness, fatigue, irritability, chills, and feeling fragile. Sub drop can happen immediately or days later.
Sub drop is the physical and emotional crash that submissives sometimes experience after intense BDSM scenes, caused by the body's return to normal hormone levels after a flood of endorphins, adrenaline, dopamine, and oxytocin during play. Symptoms vary between people and between scenes but commonly include sadness, tearfulness, fatigue, irritability, chills, muscle soreness, feeling fragile or exposed, difficulty concentrating, and a sense of emotional disconnection. Some people describe it as feeling like mild flu combined with depression. Sub drop can begin immediately after a scene, develop hours later, or appear one to three days after play when hormones fully stabilize. The experience is normal and temporary; it is not a sign of damage, regret, or incompatibility with BDSM. Drop is more likely after emotionally intense scenes, scenes that involved physical endurance, CNC or fear play, or any scene where the submissive entered a deep altered state. Good aftercare reduces the severity of sub drop but does not eliminate it. Sub drop usually resolves within 24 to 72 hours with rest, hydration, comfort, and reassurance.
