QDear Sak.red,

Where is it safe to hit during impact play?

Impact Play
ASak.red answers:

Safe target areas for impact play are the buttocks, upper thighs, upper back (away from the spine and kidneys), and the fleshy parts of the shoulders. These areas have muscle or fat to absorb impact without risk to organs, bones, or nerves.

Safe target areas for impact play are parts of the body with enough muscle or fat to absorb force without transmitting it to organs, bones, joints, or major nerves. The buttocks are the most common and forgiving target because they are fleshy, well-muscled, and contain no vital structures. The upper thighs, especially the back of the thighs, are also safe and provide good sensation. The upper back between the shoulder blades can be targeted if the practitioner avoids the spine and the area over the kidneys (which sit below the ribs in the lower back). The fleshy part of the shoulders and upper arms is safe for lighter impact. Areas to avoid include the kidneys, the spine, the tailbone, the neck, the head, the face, joints (knees, elbows, wrists, ankles), the breasts over the ribs, and the lower abdomen. The genitals require specialized knowledge and fall outside general impact play guidelines. Good practitioners study anatomy before playing, particularly if they plan to use high-force implements such as canes or heavy paddles.
