Lesbian and queer women's BDSM has a long and proud history that is often obscured by the dominant narrative of BDSM as primarily straight or gay male. The leather dyke and butch-femme communities, particularly in North America, developed their own distinct kink culture with its own language, traditions, and ethics from at least the 1970s onward.

In terms of where to find this community now: Fetlife is the most universally accessible starting point. Searching for lesbian kink, dyke BDSM, queer femme dominance, or similar terms finds both groups and individual practitioners who are active online. The quality of these communities varies, but the active ones are genuinely rich.

In-person, organisations specifically for queer and lesbian kinksters exist in most major cities and are often linked to wider leather community structures. Women-centred and queer-centred leather events, including Butch-Femme events and specifically queer leather weekends that exist in several North American cities, are worth researching. European queer kink communities are similarly active, particularly in Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK.

Fetish Dyke events, queer play parties, and women-only or queer-centred dungeon nights are another route. These are often better advertised through specific community mailing lists or social media channels than through general kink event listings.

The community is there and is substantial; the challenge is mainly in knowing where to look when most of the visible mainstream kink content does not point you toward it.
